We watched the men advance across the field and waited. They came from both directions, holding rifles with bayonets. One group stopped and donned strange masks that covered their eyes, noses and mouths. Their superior officer gave the order and canisters were launched toward the oncoming foe. As they hit the ground, out spilled a greenish mist that pooled low, tendrils driven by the breeze, and the marching soldiers started inhaling the gas. Their lungs liquified in their chests and we watched them drown in dry air. One by one they dropped. Soon we would be able to feast well.
